Web Host Review – Go Daddy Hosting
Tuesday, 5 January 2010 04:07
Now that we have finally gotten rid of Go Daddy for our Website hosting needs (depending on them in the first place was a HUGE mistake) I feel that I can write this review with ease. For those who have no idea what Go Daddy is, it is basically a really big and well known Website hosting company. You can either buy cheap domains or go for one of their inexpensive server hosting plans.
We have had Go Daddy for almost a year and a half and let me tell you, we went through a lot of issues before finally switching over to 1and1 – the best idea we have had yet.
Ever since we started to rent our Virtual Dedicated Server, or VPS for all you tech junkies, we slowly ran into recurring issues with Go Daddy’s way of managing their server. What do I mean? Well for starters, our site just ran really slow. Also, everyday our site would shut itself down. Which is why everyone who was following us via social networks or watching our YouTube videos would see that we had server problems for a while.
Anywho… I would call their “world class” customer service and tell them the issues we were having on Yourwiseguy. Instead of walking me through a series of steps to try and correct the problem, or put someone who is knowledgeable on the line that I can talk to, all they woukd suggest was that I should pay an extra $15 to have our server moved to a faster one. I know it’s a business and they are just doing their job, but having a slow server wasn’t the issue.
Each time I called their “amazing world class service”, I would always be asked the same question over and over again, “I see that you are paying on a monthly basis. If you want, right now we are running a promotion where you can get 20 percent off your order if you pay for the year”. And my reply was the same over and over again “I can’t right now”. (Remember, we are just two college guys and we do not make a lot of money). But to me you would think there would be like a check box for the customer service rep saying if the customer was already asked that question or something. That promotion just goes on forever. Nope . I think I know what it is. That “20 percent off” is just a scheme where you pay for your year and a few months down the road you change to a new host due to GoDaddy’s garbage excuse as a host and move to a new one. And then you can’t get a refund.
The whole time we were with Go Daddy we suffered issues with RAM due to their Simple Control Panel… or Turbo Panel… or whatever the hell you want to call it because, frankly, I don’t even know if they knew what control panel they were using (It had about 20 different names depending on where you were using it from). But the time finally came and we moved our server to 1 and 1 and have not suffered any problems since.
The only good thing I can say about Go Daddy is they have decent prices on their web hosting packages. But don’t take my word for it. I’m sure there are other web hosting companies that offer the same packages for a lower price.
By no means did 1 and 1 pay us to write this blog or pay us to move to their service. It is just something we did our research on and found that suited us best. And another thing, because I know we will get a ton of emails for this, the problems that we suffered can happen to anyone at anytime. That does not mean everyone will have the same problem we did. But we understand how Go Daddy runs their business and it is not what we want to be apart of.
So for this, Yourwiseguy.com gives Go Daddy a 2 out of 5 rating.
